A to Z Curiosity

Term 4

Week 6:


Build your own bridge based on the bridge that you and your partner has agreed upon for your infographic. You can choose to meet up with your partner to create/make own bridge, or you can each make your own one. Which ever is easiest for you. Remember to communicate with your partner. If you can't complete an infographic at home, please see me and you can do it during morning tea or lunch time. Please see our Landscape Learning page if you are still unsure on what an infographic is.

Infographic sheet is due Fri 21st Nov and the bridge is due in 2 weeks time, Fri 28th Nov.

Spelling: List 26: Connect the dots: Write ten of your spelling words in dots. Then connect the dots by tracing over them with a coloured pencil.



Week 4:

A- Z: Letter Y


Spelling: Draw and Spell: Draw and label your spelling words. You MUST colour your drawings and labels. Don't forget to add a lot of great detail! Do your best work!


Week 1:

Colour: Purple
Spelling: Spelling Poem: Be creative and write a poem using some of your spelling words. Underline the words that you've used. Illustrate your poem.

Term 3

Week 10:

Recount: Write a recount of an event that has happened in your life. E.g., Think about your time at Wakaaranga, what has been a memorable moment? An important time in your life, like celebrations, sad moments with family or friends. Remember to use past tense, the orientation is clear, paragraphs, ideas are in order, interesting language, sentences are descriptive and varied, with a good conclusion. Limit your recount, remember it's quality over quantity.

Spelling: Choose 10 words and use them in a sentence. Underline your spelling words.

Week 9:

A - Z Curiosity: Letter G
Spelling Activity: Riddles Words. Write a riddle and use your spelling words as the answer to your riddle. E.g., I cry, I wear diapers, I like to drink milk, who am I?

Week 8:

A - Z Curiosity: Letter Y

Spelling Activity: Trace a shape: Count your spelling words. Draw a shape for each word. Then you will need to trace each shape by writing your spelling words around them. For example: You draw a circle and around the circle is your first word. One word per shape.


Week 7:

A - Z Curiosity: Number 13

Spelling Activity: Superman Letter: Your job is to write a creative letter to Superman (or another super hero). In your letter, you must use each of your spelling words. Be sure to underline your words as you use them. You will only need to choose 10 words from your list.

Week 6:

A - Z Curiosity: Letter K
Spelling Activity: Buzzing Bees: Draw and colour an outdoor picture. Count your spelling words. Draw a bee for each of your spelling words. Then write the words inside each of the 'Spelling' bees. Write neatly!

Week 5:

A - Z Curiosity: Letter X

Spelling Activity: Hidden Words: List 17: Draw and colour a picture. Hide your spelling words inside your picture. Show your picture to someone and see if they can find your hidden words!


Week 4:

A-Z Curiosity: Number 5
Spelling List 16: Make a wordle or tagxedo of your spelling words. You will need to retype the words several times to make up your shape.

Week 3:

A-Z Curiosity: Letter F
List 15: Spelling: 30 Seconds Word: Write a TV commercial using all of your spelling words and then you are going to come to school and present your TV commercial. You will be recorded at school.

Squiggly Spelling Words: You are going to write your spelling words two times. First write in regular letters. Then write the words again in squiggly letters.

Term 2

Week 8:
A-Z Curiosity: Letter W
Spelling: Learn your spellathon words and you will get a sponsor sheet next week to fill in.
Remember to learn the hard ones first and then do the easy ones.
Activity: Your task is to write out the words in a list and identify any mistakes. Underline the mistakes, then rewrite next to it the correct spelling. Choose 10 words and use it in a sentence. You should have 10 sentences.

E.g. Littel Little : There is a little house under the old Oak tree and in it lives the Gobernesh family.
(Ask me on Monday and I might continue this story :)


Week 7:


A-Z Curiosity: Medieval Period / Middle Ages (If you have covered this topic already, then look at the Victorian Period)
Spelling Activity: List 14: Words without vowels: Write your spelling words out as a list of words, but replace all the vowels with a line. Then go back to the beginning of your list and see if you can fill in the correct missing vowels without looking at your spelling list.

Math Class: Number Knowledge: Series 1: Bk 7: Pg 11 & National Curriculum Math: Level 3: Book 2: Homework Bk: Pg 26: Fractions



Week 6:

A-Z Curiosity: Letter T

Spelling Activity: Write a poem using several of your spelling words. Underline your words that you use. Illustrate and colour your poem.

Week 5:

A - Z Curiosity: Letter S

Spelling Activity:Write each of your spelling words out and next to each word, write a rhyming word. If necessary, your rhyming word can be a nonsense word (as long as it follows the same spelling pattern).

Example: Cries Tries


Week 4:


A - Z Curiosity: Letter R
Spelling Activity: Words Within Words - 10 Words only
Write each spelling word and then write at least two words made from the same letters that is hidden inside the word. Example: Slide = side, lie, lid, led etc.


Week 3:


A - Z Curiosity: Letter Q
Spelling Activity: Goofy Spelling Story: Write a goofy spelling story using each of your spelling words. Be sure to underline your words as you use them. Illustrate and colour your story.


Week 2:


A - Z Curiosity: Letter N

Week 1

A - Z Curiosity: Letter Z
Spelling: You have been given all your spelling words for the year, the one to focus on are words from List 8.
Activity: Other Handed: First write your spelling words the way you usually do it. Then, try writing the list with your other hand.

Week 11:

Time to unwind, so enjoy a homework free weekend. If you have math, just complete it and have it ready by Wed. No Math on Thursday because of Water wise for Mrs Martin's class.

Week 10:

A - Z Curiosity: Number, '12'

Think about what number 12 and try to research on something that is related to this number. E.g., 12 and how it is written in different languages. How did 12 come about? Why is it spelt this way? What would happen if we didn't have the number 12? Is this number important in another country? Make a poster to share your work. Please focus on your presentation and layout.

Week 9:


A - Z Curiosity: letter 'm'.
This week, I would like you to be super CREATIVE. Instead of the usual, pen to paper routine, I would like you to think outside the box. What can you do that is creative to share with the class. Can you design something starting with a letter m? For example, making a motorbike out of wires. You can then stick information on wires that are attached to the bike. Think BIG this week. I can't wait to see what you can create!! I am CURIOUS!!

Activity: Spelling Photographs: Material: Camera, printer, natural materials and creative thinking. IF you cannot print it out, save it onto a memory stick and bring it to school to print. Do this BEFORE Friday.

Create spelling words using natural materials such as twigs, rocks, flowers or shells and then photograph it. Print the photos and display it creatively in your homework book.
